Political Platform

• Limit myself to two terms as Councillor; encourage other Councillors to vote in a two term limit.
• Will vote against any pay raise for Councillor’s.
• Implement Ranked Ballots for the 2018 election.
• All current and future WARD 25 projects will be listed and accessible online.
• Start the process of using the Internet for voting; getting direct feedback from WARD 25 residents.
• Bring Participatory Budgets (tax payers vote on what projects they want their tax money to go to) to WARD 25. Councillor Shelly Carroll introduced a Participatory Budget to Ward 33 in 2014.
• Allow Regional Councils more control over regional spending.
• Property Tax increases to be maintained at rate of inflation.
• Would vote to abolish or decrease the Municipal Land Transfer Tax due to its unpopularity.
• I do not support the Toronto Island Airport expansion due to environmental and congestions concerns. I support the Union-Pearson Express and Eglinton Cross-town to Pearson.
• Actively pressure and lobby the Federal and Provincial Government for more funding.
• Road infrastructure: Promote the use of better materials for roads and repairs, promote resident meetings to discuss what roads need to be upgraded that are not in current plans, accommodate cyclists using the roads.
• Federal Government has to play a larger role in Public Transit and provide consistent funding.
• Development and intensification is one of the most pressing issues for WARD 25. I will put pressure on the Provincial Government to abolish the Ontario Municipal Board – it’s an unelected, undemocratic, unaccountable body that often breaks its own rules. It is adversarial, often sides with developers, and passes arbitrary decisions that wreck havoc on local decision making. OMB routinely overrules decisions made by local councils, thwarting municipalities in their attempts to slow urban sprawl.
